After decades of searching the Kimberley region of Western Australia, geologists Frank Hughes and Warren Atkinson spot a diamond resting atop an anthill.

The Argyle Mine begins production

Hughes and Warren's discovery led them to find one of the richest diamond deposits in the world. Owned by Rio Tinto, the Argyle Mine opened in 1983, resulting in the production of a wide array of white and coloured diamonds.

Dreamtime Australian Diamonds is established
